About Submitting
Knowing what we like to publish before choosing what to send us only makes sense. Please peruse a copy of Gigantic Sequins before sending us your best work. We keep our issues affordable at $7.50, and many of our early back issues go for less. You can buy an issue via our online store or pick one up at a bookstore or an event. Another way to see what we have previously published is to browse select work we have archived online, though we do recommend purchasing an issue.
OPEN PERIODS TIMELINE
As of summer 2020 our open reading period for unsolicited submissions typically runs from November 1 to January 15, though these dates are subject to change. Visit our Contests page for information on any contests we have held recently/will be holding in the near future.

OPEN PERIODS TIMELINE
As of summer 2020 our open reading period for unsolicited submissions typically runs from November 1 to January 15, though these dates are subject to change. Visit our Contests page for information on any contests we have held recently/will be holding in the near future.
GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR OPEN PERIODS
- We accept submissions only electronically via Submittable. If you have a disability that prevents you from using this interface, please email us within the allotted time frame for general submissions.
- For every issue read in the following categories: Poetry, Fiction, Creative Non-fiction, and Art/Comics. Occasionally, we have other categories open and/or contests.
- If you've submitted writing and haven’t heard from us in 4 months, you may query us via email here.
- If you've submitted art/comics, we will often keep work through 2 submission periods, so you may not hear back from us for up to 10 months.
- We accept simultaneous submissions as long as you tell us (via your form on Submittable, which you can access in the email that is automatically sent to you after submitting) when your work has been accepted elsewhere ASAP. Here are detailed instructions on how to make a partial withdraw if you need to withdraw only part of your submission.
- Please only submit once per genre per submission period. Since Art/Comics are open year-round, please only submit twice a year for that category.
- Please read thoroughly each genre’s specific guidelines on our Submittable page.
- We compensate contributors with one copy of the magazine in which their work appears.
- We retain first serial rights, and all rights revert back to author/artist upon publication.
- We run an annual summer contest series in poetry & flash fiction. In 2015 & 2018, we ran a winter contest series in poetry comics and flash non-fiction. See our contests page for more information on contest opportunities at GS.
