animal considers animal

Poetry by p.e. garcia

p.e. garcia
animal considers animal

& concludes:

                         if you must/compare me
                         to a tiger/compare me
                         to bright plumes of blood

                         -red feathers caught/in my throat
                         if you must/compare me

never ask for metaphors/never
ask for poetry/ask for nothing
more than the unbroken/tiger breath

on the back of your neck/the hundred horses
who contemplate/your nudity
the dog asleep/in your garden
who dreams/of your hands

never ask for the unseen/assume
it’s already there

p.e. garcia is Features Editor at the Rumpus and the author of fictions & incantations (Sad Spell); dear god, dear gordan (tenderness lit); and p.e. garcia (Awst Press). Currently, they live in Philadelphia where they're a PhD candidate in Rhetoric.
